Results of the Open Call for Participating Artists

In the framework of the project titled Creating a Network Among CSOs and Public Institutions Through “Artist in Residence” Program, seven-day long contemporary art research and production workshops in 9 different cities of Turkey, conducted by 9 invited artists will be realized.

For the “daire” project, an open call was announced in order to select the participating artists of the artist-in-residence programs that will be implemented in Çanakkale, Diyarbakır, Hatay, İstanbul, İzmir, Mardin, Mersin, Nevşehir and Sinop.

To the open call that was announced between the 8th of July and 19th of August, 2019, 154 artists from 22 different cities in Turkey and 5 foreign cities applied. The Selection Committee made a difficult and meticulous pre-selection based on the curriculums, portfolios, motivation letters and artist-in-residence city preferences provided by the applicant artists. The capacity and experience of the applicants to articulate and communicate their ideas to their audience trough creative means as well as their areas of production and research were among the criteria that were taken into account by the Selection Committee. The results of the pre-selection were then presented to the 9 conducting artists-in-residence for their consideration and the participating artists-in-residence were determined for each city as follows.

The content and the method of the artist-in-residence programs will be structured jointly by the conducting artists and the selected participating artists for each city. The cities will be the focal point for the research and practices in the framework of the artist-in-residence program and the resident artists will reflect on and explore about their ecological, cultural and sociological interactions with the city.

After the seven-day long residencies in 9 cities, the participating artists are expected to continue working on the ideas, information, impressions and materials they collected during their residence. The conducting artists will continue exchanging with and mentoring the participating artists in order to sustain their research and productions until June 2020.

In June 2020, during the ten-day long closing event that will be held in K2 Urla Breathing Zone (İzmir) the conducting and participating artists will once again come together in order to exchange on and continue their productions. During this closing event, presentations on the experience gained through the process will be made and the eventual artistic productions (if any) will be exhibited or performed.

The travel expenses of the participating artists will be covered from the project budget and per diems in accordance with the EU rates will be provided for the duration of the residence. Per diems cover accommodation, meals, local travel within the place of mission and sundry expenses of the participating artists. Research and production expenses will also be covered in the framework of the determined budget for the artist-in-residence programs.

At the end of the program participating artists will receive a Deed of Adherence.

We would like to thank all the applicants for their interest to daire Project.
